Babel

Babel is an innovative choir with a mission to foster cultural understanding through choral music. Founded in 2018 by Dr. Elaine Choi, the choir has performed nationally and toured Hong Kong, Macau, and Taipei. The choir has collaborated with notable artists including the Centre for Music Innovations, Hibiki Project, The Tenors, the Canadian Chamber Choir, and the Philippine Madrigal Singers. Passionate about supporting composers, Babεl created the Choral Composers Mentorship Program to develop new choral works and premiered many new works. As an advocate and specialist in choral music by Asian and Asian diasporic composers, Babεl has been invited to perform at key events including Mass Culture’s Convergence Conference, the Canadian Opera Company’s Showcase Series to celebrate Asian Heritage Month, and Canada’s biennial choral conference and festival, PODIUM. Distinguished by its diverse musical repertoire focused on cultural exchanges, Babεl has made a significant impact on Canada’s choral scene.
