Dr. Chris Wilson (PhD ethnomusicology) is a composer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, bandleader, teacher, lecturer, writer and researcher. His roster of past and present musical projects includes calypso band Shak Shak, Caribbean jazz group The Liquidaires, an ongoing collaboration with Cameroonian singer songwriter Njacko Backo, country band The Jeremiahs, klezmer band Hu-Tsa-Tsa, and parade bands The Norway Day Players and The Arythmix. Chris’ professional activities include being a music director for both Shadowland Theatre and Clay and Paper Theatre. He also teaches popular music courses at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), and leads the Fret Not Ukulele Players. Chris’ practice combines music and interpersonal engagement, and he seeks out situations in which music encourages community, and promotes meaningful and positive interactions.
