About the day

Flow State transforms Luminato at Harbourfront into a vibrant celebration of South Asian culture, a confluence of traditional and contemporary expression on Toronto's waterfront. This dynamic festival, curated by the Tawoos Initiative, flows from meditative moments to energetic performances, celebrating the healing powers of collective joy, and the pleasures of losing oneself in the rhythms of the subcontinent.

Lose yourself in sound bath meditations, dance with your family to folk classics and move to the beats of South Asian hip hop and rap. Art and Culture flows across the subcontinent, creating connections between communities that span globally.

Whether you are looking for South Asian eats, or South Asian beats, Flow State offers a space for both calm and celebration. Join workshops celebrating the art of connection, discover new artists or experience the genius of legendary musicians, and be part of a community gathering that honors both tradition and innovation.

This is where the ancient instrumentation meets the pulse of contemporary Toronto, leaving you in a Flow State.

ABOUT THE CURATORS

Tawoos Initiative

The Tawoos Initiative is a not-for-profit music presenter established in 2018. Tawoos centers what it means to be an immigrant living in a genre-bending, multicultural city like Toronto. It was created as a collective for individuals to gather, and explore performers of South Asian origins from across the world, who offer innovative takes on the rich and vibrant history of music and arts in the subcontinent. Tawoos is not genre bound - from SASWANA dance parties, Queer Bollywood Nights, centering femme and non binary DJs, or live acts, Tawoos has presented artists such as Ali Sethi, Meesha Shafi, Qais Essar, Farooque Bhai, Hassan Raheem, Natasha Noorani, Nabihah Iqbal, Discostan, Lady Pista, and the Abu Muhammad Qawwali group. Tawoos believes in creating safe spaces for South Asian communities and artists alike, disrupting the norms of the Canadian music scene, with an anti-oppression framework and decolonizing perspective.
