The Experience

Colourful Parachutes is a group exhibition featuring leading Canadian and international artists that invites children - and visitors of all ages - to reimagine art galleries as a place of play, creativity, and creation. Drawing inspiration from landmark exhibitions like Palle Nielson’s The Model (1968), the exhibition aims to disrupt conventional gallery norms by inviting audiences to participate rather than merely observe. Colourful Parachutes aims to centre children's voices, and ask visitors of all ages about their dreams, aspirations and hopes for the future.

The title comes from Indigenous philosopher Ailton Krenak’s 2020 book Ideas to Postpone the End of the World, which asks the question: Are we building the world future generations actually want?

Artist: Claire Greenshaw, Leisure (Meredith Carruthers & Susannah Wesley), Sassa Linklater,

Families will explore You will find Lagos in Jand Living (Final Destination: the T-dot), 2023–26 by Temitayo Ogunbiyi, and discover how twining, plant-like shapes twist and turn like playful maps. Through conversation and close looking, participants will think about how places, memories, and experiences connect. Inspired by the artwork, families will use colourful paper to imagine and build their own three-dimensional maps linking their inner worlds with the places around them.
