The talent—even magic—in musicology, composition, and vocals that flows through her in so

many different ways is extraordinary” – London Jazz News (UK)

The Artist

GANNA is Ukrainian singer, composer, and producer based in Berlin. Since 2013 she has been

researching and reimagining the ancient folklore from her homeland. Today, she is considered

“one of the most impressive singers and musicians on the European jazz and world music scene”

(Ö1 Radio, Austria). The latest album HOME by her ethno-jazz ensemble was released in

November 2022 on BERTHOLD records and was celebrated by the music press as “Album of the

Year” (DLF Kultur radio, DE) and “Jazz Highlight of the Year” (BR radio, DE). Her solo debut album

KUPALA was released by BERTHOLD records in October 2023 and also received much praise

from the music press: “These are sounds of enchanting beauty,” BR-Klassik radio (DE). KUPALA

was included in the list of “Best Ukrainian Albums 2023” by the Ukrainian radio station

Slukh.Media and the music journal MIXMAG, and was named “New European Sound 2024” by

LIVEUROPE.

In October 2025, GANNA released her new solo album UTOPIA, which was featured on the

national German TV ARD. National German newspapers FAZ and TAZ wrote about GANNA:

“vocal acrobat, magician on the electronic set, and musician on unusual instruments, has long

been a collector of old Ukrainian folk songs.”

GANNA has been thrilling audiences with her solo program and spreading Ukrainian culture,

music, and language worldwide. With loops, effects, samples, and the guitaret-synth, GANNA

combines the authenticity and tradition of Ukrainian singing with modern composition,

improvisation, and electronic music. It all starts with a simple melody that GANNA's voice brings

to life. Live and with the help of unexpected harmonies and rhythms, an exciting world of sound is created. The repertoire is inspired by GANNA's research trips to various regions of Ukraine. She

interviewed grandmothers and grandfathers in the Carpathians, in villages near Kyiv and Poltava.

For the Luminato at Harbourfront performance on Sunday, June 14th, GANNA will be joined by Laura Robles, an internationally acclaimed Peruvian cajón virtuoso, composer, and researcher of Afro-Peruvian traditions. Born in Eswatini and raised in Lima, and based in Berlin since 2012, Robles is known for her radical rhythmic language, innovative solo project ANTI-GROOVE, and her globally celebrated work Agua Dulce, praised by The Guardian. Having performed at major festivals such as CTM and Unsound and collaborated with leading figures in jazz and experimental music, she brings a powerful, exploratory approach to rhythm that resonates closely with GANNA’s own fusion of heritage and experimentation—making this one-time collaboration a unique meeting of two singular artistic voices.
