RAINBOW CALM

The piece created for Rainbow Calm explores making color accessible through sound by mapping blue and green hues to specific pitches, inspired by research linking higher pitches to cooler colors and using sound-color correspondence to translate color wavelengths into musical notes. C#5 (554.37 Hz) was chosen as this is a midpoint between blue and green, reflecting the origin of the name Toronto, which comes from the Mohawk word "Tkaronto," meaning "Trees Standing in Water." The lower synth represents the topography of the lake, it's size, and its depth, and the fluid, yet seemingly still, nature of the lake's water. The long, drawn-out flute notes and the varied wavelengths of the samples are inspired by the harmony and movement of the wind across the water and the influence it can have on nurturing mindfulness and a calm presence.
